This book was recommended from a friend of mine, and I owe her a fruit basket for it. My 8-month-old was happy to nurse every 2 hours like clockwork through the night and I was dreading the process of getting him to sleep on his own, as I had attempted it several times, but this book was such a great help towards everyone getting more sleep.The practical steps outlined helped minimize my heartache as we moved towards having my baby in his own crib in his own room, and within a month he was sleeping soundly through the night on a regular basis -- a first! I forgot what it was like to sleep 6 hours undisturbed!Not every parent condones letting a baby cry themselves to sleep, but this book is a happy medium. 10/10 recommend.

I bought an earlier edition of this when my husband and I were frantic with sleep deprivation - our 8 month old would not get to sleep on her own! This was long before the days of Amazon prime - we had to have the book fed exed to us because we couldn't stand it anymore. The author, a Ph.D., is an expert in pediatric sleep disorders. And although our daughter did not have a sleep disorder, the book helped us understand how we could help our daughter fall asleep and stay asleep. We used what we learned in this book for our younger two children, and they never had any trouble going to sleep and staying asleep.Fast forward 17 years, and my sister cannot get her infant to sleep. She has read every sleep book she could get her hands on, but found this one the most sensible and the most helpful.Highly recommend!

I took bits and pieces of advice and personalized our sleep training to what worked for us. This book claims to go over other methods but there is a strong bias and little information on anything that strays from the authors approach. Still very helpful.SECRET TIPOne of the best piece of advice that I found in one of the authors Q & A’s (NOT in book) was to place several pacifiers in one corner of the crib. That way your baby can easily find one and learn to sooth themselves. Not sure why that wasn’t in the book but even after training we keep 2-3 in her crib during nap/bedtime. I think that tip shortened the sleep training process by a few days.

My pediatrician recommended this book. I had already done a lot of research/reading on sleep. I learned a few useful things but I think she also gave really bad advice in one area. I didn’t like the way it was organized (she went off I to discipline for toddlers and I was confused as to why we were even going there, then came back to infant sleep). I also found the author to be rather full of herself, which annoyed me. I wouldn’t buy this book for anyone I know (as I often do when I find a book I like). Save your time and money and research online. There are so many great blogs. Or read Dr. Harvey’s book about sleep, that was helpful. I love his book, Happiest Baby on the Block. Lifesaver for this new mom, even though my baby wasn’t colicky.

A good middle method that’s slowly working for us. The downside is the book seems to be written for those who’ve missed the age range the author considers ideal. So a great deal of the book had little to do with us. We started at 11 weeks and while putting himself to sleep within 20 minutes now with very little fussing, 3 weeks later he is still not putting himself back to sleep after the first wake up. The one time we tried to let him; he cried for nearly an hour and a half. Would be nice to have a chapter dedicated to this ‘ideal’ age range because it seems to us it’s not so ideal. He certainly didn’t catch on in the first 3 days. We’ll keep this more gentle approach going and I’m hoping one of these days he’ll catch on.

The book is very interesting and has lots of information. However the method didn't work for me because I couldn't apply it as described.I tried with some alternative options but I realized that I cannot let my baby cry for hours one night after the other.My baby is really more persistent than me, she can get out of her bed 20 times per night during 1 week and no matter what I do, she will sleep worse each night because she feels abandoned, which makes her even more persistent on looking for me all the night.Hope I would read this book when my baby was born, so I would make some things different from the very beginning.

Really useful info for sleep training. Apply the methods and be consistent! My daughter was a stubborn baby and it took quite a few tries but now at four months old, I can place her in her crib after the nightly routine and she drifts peacefully off to sleep. So glad I read this, it has been a true sleep saver!

This book was LIFE CHANGING for us. We went from struggling to put our baby down, taking 45 min to an hour every night of gymnastics to get her to sleep to putting her down awake inside of 3-4 days. She now sleeps reliably through the night as well. Game changer!!! Don't wait, get this book today!!!
