This book is absolutely fantastic! Whether you agree with Cardozo's broader judicial ideology or not, few could deny his sheer genius regarding fundamental legal analysis, brilliant application of general law to the specific facts at hand, and his remarkable prose. It's a shame that the previous reviewer gave less than 5 stars, in part, I take it, from the fact that this work is not replete with biographical information. That's not the point of this work. If you want to read about someone, order a biography. If you want to get a glimpse into the inner thought processes of an extraordinary legal mind in action (i.e. through his legal writings), you've come to the right place.

I wrote my thesis for law school on Justice Cardozo. With this book, I was able to find lots of source material from which could cite. This collection of decisions has all of the ones for which Justice Cardozo became known, including the Oldsmobile case which effectively created modern consumer liability negligence law. Palsgraf is here as well, along with several other notable decisions and citations. The work, like Justice Cardozo's career, is thin on Supreme Court decisions, and contains no biographical information. For that, I recommend the work by Richard Posner.
