Overall, this book was a touch obvious and sentimental, however, it had some moments of utter brilliance. These moments, excerpted below, were enough to make me pause and relish in the words and concepts for several moments. They bumped up rating to a solid four stars. I am not sure I would rush out to buy other Andy Andrews books. I would be afraid they all have too similar plots: mysterious sage man helps a community see the errors of its ways. That said, I'm glad I read this book. It was a feel good, stop and make you think, easy reading reminder that life is too short. My favorite moments:“I was in a city one night — Chicago, it was, come to think of it — and I saw a man chase a hat that had blown off someone's head into the street. A car hit him and killed him dead.†Walker glanced at the old man, disgusted, and said, “Why on earth would you tell me that?†“I just think it's amazing,†Jones answered, looking straight ahead, “that a person could lose everything, chasing nothing.â€Have you ever considered how often we judge ourselves by our intentions while we judge others by their actions? Yet intention without action is an insult to those who expect the best from you. ‘I intended to bring you flowers, but I didn't.’ ‘I meant to finish this work on time.’ ‘I was going to be there for your birthday …’ Despite popular belief to the contrary, there is absolutely no power in intention. It is simply that they did not make a mistake; they made a choice … and never understood the difference between the two.Forgiveness is about the past. Trust and respect are about the future.
This book maybe changed my life a bit. I am retired and not too healthy. I have thought that maybe I should just kick back and not commit to very much because I often have to cancel because of health issues or sometimes I follow through but I am so fatigued. I read the chapter about the older woman who felt her life's work was mostly done, and the Noticer pointed out that her most important work may still be in front of her. That now is my mindset. Just get out of my way (!)
Simple morning read. Don't be sensitive to preachiness and you may enjoy the perspective. A stranger recommended this to me at the bar of a restaurant after I had been served divorce papers and was estranged from most of my family. That stranger survived cancer and during her battle became estranged from her family and most of her friends. I sometimes wonder if I should have gotten that lady's number and become her friend, but it makes this book all the more appropriate for me personally.
This book is for the dinner, so it and anyone in between. Perspective changes YOUR life. The crazy thing is, no matter YOUR circumstances, YOU have a choice which perspective YOU choose.I have given out over 1800 copies of this book in my encouragement packages. It is a one size fits all, compelling book. YOU will not put it down as the same person who picked it up.My Uncle Dan gave me this book a yr before he passed away. He truly was "A Noticer." He encouraged YOU to carve YOUR name on hearts, not tombstones. He experienced love and loss and in the time of death, spoke no sweeter or more assuring words, "Don't be afraid, heaven is better."We encourage YOU to think about YOUR perspective. Are YOU giving YOUR life YOUR best YOU?May YOUR days be filled with moments that last a lifetime and memories that flood YOUR soul, May YOU have the eyes of a noticer and Perspective that gets YOU through on YOUR toughest days. With Love#DownHomeMamaThe Harris Family Tribe

One of the best books ever written. I have read it several times and give it away often. It's an awesome book! I highly recommend it. It will take you on an adventure journey while teaching you and opening your mind to deep biblical truths about life and wisdom to guide your life. Such an incredible story based on real events.
